AIESEC is a worldwide non-profit, student-run organization with 50,000 members. Created to contribute to the development of international understanding and cooperation, the association offers internships that let its members work abroad.
The AIESEC network spans some 750 university campuses in more than 85 countries and territories. To accommodate the international nature of its members, most of the association s core resources are available on-line, including its main global information system, an internship database, an FTP server for sharing large files and the formal application process. The AIESEC site also offers some leading-edge interactive applications, such as live chat, discussion lists and an Internet videoconferencing system, complete with image and sound.
With headquarters in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and another office in New York City, the association relies on WhatsUp Gold from Ipswitch, Inc. to keep its vast system of servers and Internet connections up and running, 24 hours a day. WhatsUp Gold is a simple network mapping, monitoring and notification software package that sends a variety of alerts to the system administrator as soon as a device or service on the network goes down.
The benefits are simple: A staff of three, located on two continents, can monitor a number of servers and services easily and efficiently, without having to continually test the network. WhatsUp Gold ensures a stable computing environment for AIESEC, so the association can concentrate on its core activities.
