Auto-discovers the network
Ipswitch WhatsUp Small Business first finds network devices in a number of ways:
  • Services and devices by name or network address
  • Devices within a selected range of network addresses
  • SNMP scan of the local network
Monitors key devices
From a spectrum of device-types, users then select up to 10 devices to map and monitor, regardless of network size:

Monitors essential services
Ipswitch WhatsUp Small Business uses TCP protocols to monitor services running on the selected devices, including:

  • DNS
  • POP3
  • FTP
  • SMTP
  • HTTP
  • IMAP4
Notification options
Users choose one or more ways to be alerted when services or devices are down 5 or 20 minutes, or as soon as services or devices have been up for 5 minutes:

  • Audio alarm (.wav files recommended)
  • E-mail via SMTP
  • Visual alert via win pop-up or task tray
Report options
Current and historical reports include:

  • Health (current device status)
  • Availability by percent of devices or up/down history of each (by month, week, all or part of a day)
  • Response time performance displayed as hourly or daily averages in reports covering a month, week, all or part of a day (raw data retained for 3 days)
